Furadouro town center is a short walk or drive from the house. Here you can find many affordable restaurants and bars with authentic Portuguese cuisine. It’s also possible to buy groceries if you prefer to cook at camp.
The House is in an incredible location to access natural surroundings besides the beach. To the North lies Maceda Pine forest, a 10km protected forest reserve that runs up the coastline. A bike path running through the forest is great for renting bikes or for runners.
We are very happy to arrange bike rentals during your stay and highly recommend exploring our coastline by bike.
Ovar Skate Park is also just a short drive away. Or if you prefer to practice skating on flat, there are plenty of good skate spots in our neighborhood.

Most frequently asked questions and answers
Of course you can! Actually, a majority of our clients have never surfed before. Our surf course for beginners starts from zero. You definitely do need to be able to swim. But we will take it from there.
Yes, absolutely. A surf camp is a fantastic place to meet people! Many guests visit our surf camp by themselves. We feel strongly that surf camp mates are mates for life.
There will be lots of opportunities to socialize on and off the beach. Being social is of course optional, there are plenty of quiet spots at camp and in the local area to get that holiday “me time” we all deserve.
We recommend you to bring the usual thing you would bring to the beach: sunscreen, flip flops, swimsuit, sunglasses, sunhat, beach towel and lots of energy 🙂 The evenings in North Portugal can be cold, even during the summer. It’s a good idea to bring a hoodie or jacket just in case.
Yes, you have unlimited free access to all the surf equipment (surfboard and wetsuit). At Epic Surf Camp, we encourage you to surf your heart out!
We run both a beginner and intermediate surf course. Generally, intermediates have done at least one full week surf course already. As such, intermediate surfers already have some knowledge about surf equipment, paddling, popping up and reading the ocean. Whatever your level, and your unique challenges, we will build on your existing skills. We recommend you share your specific goals with your surf instructor at the first surf lesson.
Yes, shuttles to our surf camp from OPO Airport or Ovar Train station can be arranged. Please email us in advance to let us know how you plan to travel to camp.
North Portugal has waves all year round. However, the conditions vary a lot over the year…
SUMMER: Furadouro is a great place to surf uncrowded waves all summer. As such we recommend the summer to both beginners and intermediate surfers. The size varies but is generally the best size for learning and improving, with waves from ankle high to overhead.
SPRING & AUTUMN: A mixed bag but can deliver awesome conditions. These are great seasons for beginner and intermediate surfers who are really stoked on confronting more challenging surf. Real surfing, with all it’s triumphs and occasional disappointments. This is also a quieter time of year, so well suited to those who want a quiet and cozy holiday, with a bit of sun and sea.
WINTER: Winter is suitable for advanced free surfers and intermediates keen for a winter getaway. Surf conditions and weather can vary greatly. It’s best to check the forecast, or email us to ask about your specific dates and surf expectations.
The best day to arrival and depart is Sunday. Sunday is our arrivals & departures day, with no scheduled activities. Monday is Day 1 of our surf courses.
It is possible to arrive on any day. If you have missed parts of the course we will do our best to catch you up with the group.
Yes absolutely. If you don’t stay for the full week surf camp package, we recommend you book just Nightly Bed & Breakfast in advance and add your Extras (surf, yoga, skate, bbq etc) when you arrive.
